What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is working on adding the same number over and over. You have a pattern of adding or counting.
So if you skip counting by 2s, you have a pattern like, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and so forth. These patterns can be repeated for many numbers.
Most often you skip count at least 12 times but you can skip counting more.

Laminate the Lunar New Year Skip Counting by Lunar New Year Puzzle First
I always laminate the puzzles. This helps them last longer. I like to laminate them before cutting them out.
Cut Out the Lunar New Year Skip Counting by Lunar New Year Puzzles
Then I cut out the puzzles. I know that people have different options about how to do this. So do what is best for you.
Once I have the puzzle cut out I put a rubber band around it to keep the pieces together.
Preparing the Skip Counting Puzzle Mat
Another part of preparing the puzzles is the puzzle mat. This is a printable mat that you can use to help build the puzzles on. It has the space for the 10 pieces.
I like to laminate the mat and then put wall putty on it. This gives something for the puzzles to stick on.

Setting up a Skip Counting Center
You can see a simple set up below for a skip counting center. We have the skip counting mat, the skip counting puzzle pieces and the skip counting bookmarks. You don’t have to use the bookmarks but they are great for helping kids with their skip counting. If you do use the bookmarks they are loads of fun to print on colors to match the theme they are doing. So we used a red version with our puzzles.
Building the Skip Counting Puzzle
You can see how simple it is to build the puzzle on the skip counting mat. The putty keeps the puzzle pieces from moving.
You can always check if the order of numbers is correct with the skip counting bookmarks.
After the puzzle is done have them say the skip counting numbers. You can do forward and backwards.
Mix Up the Skip Counting Puzzle
For older kids you can have fun with a mixed up puzzle. You can see how all the puzzle pieces at on the puzzle mat. Kids will have to take off the puzzle pieces and then put them in the correct order. A fun and different way to use skip counting puzzles.
