What is Skip Counting?
Skip counting is counting forward or backward by a number other than 1.
So that would be like skip counting by 2 and you would have the numbers 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 etc.
A lot of skip counting is also part of repeat addition and multiplication.
You skip count four times by two 2, 4, 6, 8. You get eight as the ending number. It is the same as 2+2+2+2=8 or 2×4=8.

Ways to Use the Christmas Light Skip Counting Strip Printable
You are going to see how we used the skip counting Christmas light strips and how we prepared them to use.
Preparing the Christmas Light Skip Counting Strips
You are going to want to print the Christmas light skip counting strips on cardstock. This helps them last longer with repeating use. You can use white cardstock or stardust cardstock.
You are going to want to laminate the each skip counting page. We used the dry erase laminating pouches. The dry erase laminating pouches version is great for writing on with dry erase markers.
You can cut the skip counting strips out and the laminate or laminate and then skip counting the strips. We laminate before cutting. You can see one of the pages laminated below.
Using the Skip Counting Strips Together
Now if you want to skip the cutting part you can. You can see below that we kept the skip counting strips together with the number line. Then we used a dry erase marker to write in the skip counting.
You could also put the page in a sheet protector. If you do the sheet protector you can put all the numbers in a binder and skip through all the skip counting pages.
Setting up a Christmas Light Skip Counting Center
You can se how simple the set up can be. You can give them the skip counting number line with lights and the match skip counting strips. You will give them a dry erase marker to write the numbers on the lights.
Using the Skip Counting Number Line Strips
You can use just the Christmas light skip counting number lines. You have have kids point to each number and say the number. You can have them skip counting forward and then skip count backwards.
You could do this with kid starting to work on skip counting before you use the skip counting strips that kids will write on.
Using the Skip Counting Strips
You can see how simple writing the numbers on the lights can be. Kids use the markers to write the numbers and then you can have them repeat the number on each of the light strips.
You can ask them the pattern they are skip counting by as well.

You can see how the Christmas light number line is great with the skip counting strips. This is a great way to use it with kid that are just starting.
Or use the number line as a way to check out they did with the skip counting.
Using the Skip Counting Strips with the Recording Sheets
You can see how we set up a skip counting center with the Christmas light skip counting strips. You have several of the strips and then the recording sheet. It has space for 8 skip counting strips.
You can put the skip counting strips on a ring and then have kids flip through the numbers. Then everyone gets the same numbers in a learning center.
